EUROPE - Rhodes: Medieval Times & Wines

We will begin this interesting day at the D' Amboise Gate of the Medieval City, where you will disembark your private vehicle and go on a guided visit of the Palace of the Knights. Originally built in the 14th century, the building was demolished by an explosion in 1856 and then restored in 1939 during the Italian occupation. Walk along the Street of the Knights which, in spite of the restoration of its buildings, has remained untouched by the passage of 500 years. Admire the Gothic style of the buildings, and the Inns of the various "Tongues" that stand in a row with their impressive arched doorways carved with emblems. Old Rhodes is one of the most beautifully adorned and active medieval cities in all of Greece.

Afterwards, we will drive out of town to make a special stop at a local wine factory. The factory, established in 1928, has its own vineyards, and they are constantly working with new blends to create superlative tastes with such imported varieties as Cabernet and Grenache. Be prepared to enjoy the setting here as much as the wines! We will also enjoy a tasting of 7 or 8 of their quality export wines, which will be accompanied by a selection of cheese and crackers.

Following our wine tour, we will travel to Lindos, the "Jewel of the Island," the most attractive village in Rhodes. Enjoy a guided visit of the Acropolis, which will include the Great Stoa, the Temple of Athena Lindia of the 4th century BC, the ancient theatre, and the few remains of the temple of Dionysus.

Continue through the picturesque village, with its traditional architecture and decorated houses, many of which date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Your last stop is the 15th century medieval church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, where various icons and frescoes have recently been restored to their former glory.

You will also have some free time to stroll around, get a bite to eat, or even go shopping before heading back to the port. Afterwards, drive the one hour back to Rhodes in comfort.
